There is something truly special about the connection between people and animals.
Residents across all three Springdene Care Homes recently welcomed the wonderful team from Megan’s Petting Paradise, enjoying a memorable afternoon spent meeting rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, a bearded dragon and even a friendly corn snake.
The visit brought smiles, laughter and plenty of conversation to our homes in North London and Enfield, creating meaningful moments that residents, families and staff will remember for a long time.
Bringing Animal Encounters to Every Springdene Home
Megan’s Petting Paradise visited all three Springdene Care Homes:
Residents were able to enjoy an interactive experience with a wonderful variety of friendly animals. While some immediately wanted to cuddle the rabbits and guinea pigs, others were fascinated by the reptiles and enjoyed learning more about them from Megan and her team.
These shared experiences naturally encouraged conversation between residents, relatives and staff, creating opportunities for reminiscence and new friendships.
Supporting Wellbeing Through Animal Experiences
Animal-assisted activities can offer many benefits for older people, particularly those living with dementia.
Interacting with animals has been shown to help reduce anxiety, encourage communication and promote relaxation. Familiar pets often bring back treasured memories, while unusual animals spark curiosity and encourage residents to try something completely new.
Whether cuddling a gentle rabbit, stroking a guinea pig, admiring the bearded dragon or even bravely holding the corn snake, every interaction encouraged confidence, conversation and smiles. It was wonderful to see residents embracing new experiences while others shared happy stories about pets they had loved throughout their lives.
At Springdene, creating these meaningful moments is an important part of our person-centred approach to care.
Every Resident Enjoys Activities in Their Own Way
One of the things that made the visit so special was seeing each resident engage in a way that suited them.
Some happily cuddled the rabbits, while others preferred gently stroking them from the comfort of their chair. A number of residents surprised themselves by confidently holding the corn snake, while others simply enjoyed watching the animals and chatting with friends about the experience.
There was no pressure to participate. Everyone was encouraged to enjoy the afternoon in whatever way felt right for them, helping create a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere throughout all three homes.
These personalised experiences reflect Springdene’s commitment to providing activities that support physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

At Spring Grove Care Home in Hampstead, residents recently enjoyed a special celebration for World Scrabble Day, combining creativity, conversation and meaningful engagement.
The day was filled with laughter, reminiscence and plenty of wordplay as residents explored language, shared memories and created personalised Scrabble-inspired artwork that celebrated their identities and life stories.
Celebrating the Power of Words
At Spring Grove, we know that even a single word can hold a lifetime of meaning.
To mark World Scrabble Day, residents took part in a range of activities inspired by the popular word game. From building words together and sharing favourite sayings to discussing names, places and treasured memories, every activity encouraged communication and connection.

This year’s celebration also linked beautifully with World Art Day, giving residents the opportunity to create personalised Scrabble-inspired artwork using letter tiles and meaningful words.

There was plenty of music, laughter and Irish cheer across the Springdene family this St Patrickās Day as residents, families and staff came together to celebrate with a wonderful programme of entertainment and activities.
Across our homes in North London and Enfield, the day was filled with memorable moments, from energetic Irish dancing performances to beautiful live piano music, delicious food and even a traditional glass of Guinness for those who fancied one.
At Springdene Care Homes, we believe that special occasions create opportunities to bring people together, celebrate different cultures and create meaningful experiences that enrich everyday life.
Music, Dance and Shared Moments
This yearās celebrations were made extra special thanks to some fantastic performers who brought incredible energy and joy to our homes.
Residents were treated to spectacular displays by The Brooks Academy of Irish Dancing, alongside wonderful performances from talented dancers including Ella Brown. The lively routines quickly had audiences clapping along, smiling and even joining in.
Adding to the atmosphere was beautiful live piano music from Virgilius Vaitkus, whose performances created moments of reflection, reminiscence and connection throughout the day.
Whether watching a champion dancer leap across the floor or quietly listening to familiar melodies, residents found countless reasons to smile.
